Nebraska Education Television has announced that it will televise six Nebraska volleyball home matches live on NETV or NETV2. The selected matches include Sept. 21 vs. Texas, Oct. 2 vs. Colorado, Oct. 9 vs. Missouri, Oct. 19 vs. Baylor, Oct. 26 vs. Texas A&M and Nov. 13 vs. Iowa State. All selected Saturday matches will air live state-wide on NETV, and all of the Wednesday matches chosen will air live on the state-wide cable network, NETV2, with a replay one hour later on NETV. NETV2 will also televise the weekly Nebraska Volleyball Show with NU Coach John Cook on Tuesdays at 8 p.m.
The non-commerical Nebraska ETV Network (NETV) and cable network (NETV2) are licensed to the Board of Regents of the University of Nebraska and the Nebraska Educational Telecommunications Commission.
Fans who don?t have access to NETV or NETV2 can view the televised matches on the web. HuskersNside, the subscription-based service offered by huskers.com, will feature live video streaming of each match.
"We are extremely excited to be teaming up with NETV for our 2002 season," Cook said. "They are probably the most respected public television network in the country with an overall first-rate operation. This partnership will allow us to bring Nebraska volleyball to homes in every corner of the state. Due to Lincoln?s eastern location and volleyball being such a tough ticket, this will provide people that not only can?t get a ticket, but also can?t feasibly drive into Lincoln for a Wednesday night match, the opportunity to enjoy Nebraska volleyball in their homes."
The Huskers open the 2002 at the Ball State Nike Classic in Muncie, Ind., Aug. 31 - Sept. 2. The tournament field includes Pittsburgh, Ball State and No. 3 USC. The following weekend, NU travels to Tucson, Ariz., where they will face No. 6 Arizona and No. 8 Pepperdine at the Wildcat Classic.
Nebraska, which posted a 31-2 record last season en route to making its second straight NCAA semifinals appearance, will open its home slate Friday, Sept. 13, when it plays host to Santa Clara in the US Bank/Arby?s Classic. Ranked second in the USA Today/AVCA Coaches preseason poll, the 2002 Huskers will attempt to become the first team in school history to make three straight appearances in the NCAA semifinals.
