Lincoln ? 11 University of Nebraska football players were among the players selected to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-American All-District VII squad announced Thursday. The team, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), includes four Huskers who were chosen to the first team and seven second-team selections.

The first-teamers are highlighted by a pair of repeat selections in senior rush end Chris Kelsay, who carries a 3.52 GPA in finance, and junior fullback Judd Davies, who has a 3.89 GPA in communication studies. In all, nine of the 24 first-team honorees are repeat selections from 2001. The duo is joined by junior cornerback Pat Ricketts (3.40 GPA in business administration) and senior tight end Kyle Ringenberg (3.77 GPA in exercise science).

To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his career. He must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing. True freshmen, redshirt freshmen and ineligible athletic transfers are not eligible.

District VII includes all schools within the states of Colorado, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. The Canadian provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan are also represented.

The names of the 24 first-team student-athletes will appear on the Verizon Academic All-America national ballot. The Verizon/CoSIDA Academic All-America Football team will be announced on Dec. 2, 2002.
