Lincoln - I-backs Dahrran Diedrick and David Horne each ran for over 100 yards, while Jammal Lord threw a pair of touchdown passes and became the 18th player in NCAA history to rush and pass for 1,000 yards in a season, as Nebraska is now bowl eligible with a 45-7 Homecoming win over Kansas Saturday afternoon.

The Huskers, who improved to 7-4 overall and 3-3 in the Big 12, with the win, bounced back from last week?s 27-24 to Texas, rushing for 351 yards on the ground in the win, NU?s 34th consecutive victory over the Jayhawks and 34th straight Homecoming victory.

Diedrick ran for 107 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries for his first 100-yard game of the season, while Horne eclipsed the 100-yard barrier for the third time in four games, rushing for 122 yards and a score on nine carries.

Lord completed 4-of-10 passes for 59 yards and two scores, throwing touchdown passes to Wilson Thomas and Aaron Golliday, while rushing for 74 yards on 13 carries in just over a half of action. Lord, who became the third Husker in the last six years to top the 1,000-1,000 mark, now has 1,229 yards rushing and 1,016 yards through the air.

The Huskers jumped out quickly, going 81 yards in six plays on their first possession, as Diedrick raced 53 yards for the score 3:51 into the game. The run was a career-long for the senior from Scarborough, Ontario, topping his previous high of 46 yards against Kansas State in 1999.

The lead would last less than minute, as Jonas Weatherbie found a streaking Byron Gassaway for a 50-yard touchdown, capping a two-play drive. The Jayhawk score would be the only points the Blackshirt starters allowed in recording a season-low seven points and holding KU to just 224 yards.

After an exchange of punts, the Huskers got the ground game rolling, going 75 yards to take a 14-7 lead. After a pass interference penalty put the ball at the NU 40, Lord ran the option to perfection, finding Horne for a 30-yard gain before Horne finished the drive one play later with a 30-yard touchdown run, giving NU a 14-7 lead.

Nebraska extended their lead to 21-7 midway through the second quarter when Lord found Thomas wide open in the endzone for a 27-yard touchdown pass, capping a seven-play, 47-yard drive.

On KU?s next possession, Jayhawk punter Curtis Ansel mishandled the snap and was tackled by DeAntae Grixby and Troy Hassebroek at the KU 29, NU took advantage of the short field, going 20 yards before settling for Josh Brown?s 27-yard field goal to push the lead to 24-7 with 3:26 left in the half.

The Huskers opened the second half with a touchdown drive, going 80 yards in five plays, as Lord found Golliday for a 12-yard touchdown pass just 1:57 into the second half to give NU a 31-7 cushion.

Nebraska added to its lead on KU?s next possession, as Lannie Hopkins blocked his second punt of the afternoon off Ansel, which Aaron Terpening caught and returned 30 yards for the score to put NU ahead 38-7. Josh Davis capped the Husker scoring with a 4-yard touchdown run with 1:47 left in the third quarter, as 111 Huskers saw action in the victory.

Senior wingback Troy Hassebroek became the first Husker football player to be crowned Homecoming King during halftime ceremonies.

The Huskers travel to Kansas State for a showdown with the No. 12 Wildcats next Saturday, Nov. 16. The game will be on television, but the start time will not be announced until Sunday.
