2002 Senior Award Winners Announced
Lincoln -Three Husker football players were honored Friday, as the annual Senior Awards were announced prior to practice. John Garrison (Tom Novak Trophy), DeJuan Groce (Chamberlin Trophy) were selected for their respective awards by a vote of the media that covers Husker football on a regular basis, while Chris Kelsay (Cletus Fischer Native Son Award) was chosen by a vote of the football coaching staff. All three winners will be honored at the 2003 First Data Corporation Outland Trophy Award Dinner, Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel in Omaha, Neb.
A two-year starter at center, Garrison helped Nebraska lead the Big 12 in rushing in 2002, averaging 268.9 yards per game entering the Independence Bowl game against Ole Miss. The 6-foot-4, 290-pounder from Blue Springs, Mo., ranked second on the squad with 140 pancakes and tied a career high with 20 pancakes in the win over Texas A&M.
