The Red White Series Highlights from Game 3

Lincoln - Chase Odenreider?s RBI single broke a 6-6 tie, as the White team squeaked out an 8-7 victory in Game 3 of the Red/White Series Wednesday afternoon. Odenreider, who went 2-for-5 and is hitting a team-best .462 in the series, delivered a one-out single to center, scoring John Grose with the go-ahead run, as the White squad scored a pair of runs in the seventh and held on for the win.

Jeremy Becker, who earned the save in Monday?s 4-3 win, picked up the win in relief on Wednesday, allowing one unearned run in 3.1 innings of relief. The sophomore from Scottsbluff, Neb., struck out two and scattered four hits for the victorious White squad.

Trailing 8-6, the Red team nearly sent the game into extra innings in the bottom of the ninth, as Curtis Ledbetter?s two-out single was misplayed by left fielder Jesse Boyer, allowing Drew Anderson to score from first on the play to cut the deficit to one run. Becker got out of the jam, striking out Alex Gordon, who went 2-for-4 with a pair of run scored, to end the game, the second straight one-run win for the White team. The thrilling finish capped a see-saw affair where the teams combined for 15 runs on 24 hits.

The Red team jumped to a quick 3-0 advantage, tallying three unearned runs off White starter Quinton Robertson. Andy Lomax?s two-out grounder was misplayed by Odenreider for the first run before Jeff Leise belted a two-run homer to give the hosts a 3-0 advantage.

Robertson went the first four innings, allowing three unearned runs on three hits, but neither starter factored into the decision.

The lead would be short-lived as the White squad tied the score with a three-spot of their own in the third, highlighted by back-to-back homers by Darren Hoffart and Daniel Bruce of Red starter Dustin Timm.

The game remained deadlocked until the sixth when the Whites scored twice on Hoffart?s RBI single and a passed ball, giving the visitors a 5-3 lead. Hoffart went 2-for-4 while Tim Merrill had three hits to lead a 15-hit attack that saw six players have two or more hits.

In the bottom of the frame, Leise, who had two hits and scored twice, delivered a two-out RBI single before Josh Birmingham?s two-run single to left center gave the Reds a 6-5 lead.

Reliever Mike Sillman could not hold the lead, as the Whites took the lead for good in the seventh. Junior Brandon Fusilier opened the inning with a solo home run to knot the score, setting the stage for Odenreider?s game-winning hit.

The series continues Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m., while the rest of the schedule will be determined following Game 4.
