Lincoln - Curtis Ledbetter went 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBIs, leading the Red squad to a 7-5 victory over the White team Thursday afternoon at Hawks Field.

The redshirt sophomore from Lawrence, Kan., stuck early, delivering an RBI single in the first before adding a solo homer in the team, as the Red team jumped to a 5-0 lead en route to even the series at two wins apiece heading into Friday afternoon?s doubleheader.

The Reds took a 2-0 lead off White starter Jason Burch in the first, using a pair of two-out RBI singles by Ledbetter and freshman Alex Gordon before scoring a pair of runs in the second, as Burch, who took the loss, left the game with an injury after facing one batter in the second.

The Red team took advantage of a depleted bullpen, as outfielder Jesse Boyer loaded the bases in the top of the second with a walk and a hit by pitch before allowing a fielder?s choice to Josh Birmingham and an RBI single to Drew Anderson to five the visitors a 4-0 cushion. Ledbetter then upped the lead to 5-0 on a towering home run off the light pole in deep left to open the third.

The White team?s bullpen kept the game close, as an assortment of position players took the hill for the final seven innings. Third baseman Chase Odenreider struck out three in two hitless innings, while outfielder Daniel Bruce allowed just one hit in three scoreless frames.

The Whites would eventually cut the advantage to 5-4, scoring three in the fourth and one more in the fifth. In the fourth, Joe Simokaitis plated the first two runs on a double down the left field line before eventually coming home to score on a wild pitch before John Grose led off the fifth with a solo homer to cut the Red lead to a single run.

The Reds would add a pair of insurance runs off Tim Merrill in the sixth, as Ledbetter drove in a run with a bases-loaded single, while Gordon plated the final run with a bases loaded walk.

Freshman Mike Harmelink notched the win for the Red squad, throwing 4.1 innings of four-hit ball. The right-hander from Creighton Prep struck out four and allowed two runs before freshman Tim Schoeninger hurled a perfect ninth for his first save.

The series continues Friday afternoon with a doubleheader tentatively scheduled for 2:45 p.m.
