One of the most competitive pitchers on the Husker roster, Blaesing made the most of his limited duty, allowing one earned run and holding foes to a .135 average. He began the year in mop-up situations, but as the season progressed, Blaesing became a valued member of the NU bullpen in the Huskers? drive to a conference title and a College World Series appearance. A power pitcher, Blaesing looks to help the Huskers out of the bullpen.

The only Husker remaining from Coach Dave Van Horn?s initial roster, Blaesing is also a strong student, carrying a 3.1 grade-point average in construction management and is on schedule to graduate this May.

2001 - Junior
After missing nearly three full seasons, Blaesing posted impressive numbers in his return to the diamond in 2001. In nine appearances, he allowed one earned run in 10.1 innings and held opponents to a team-low .135 average. The junior saw increased action as the year progressed, coming out of the pen six times over the final six weeks of the season. He allowed just five hits and struck out at least one in eight of his final nine appearances. He also appeared in three Big 12 contests, going 0-0 with a 3.86 ERA.

Blaesing made his postseason debut against Northern Iowa in the Huskers? NCAA opener on May 27, throwing a scoreless ninth inning in NU?s 16-6 win over the Panthers. He did not pitch in the Super Regional or the College World Series.

He started the regular season on a rocky note, allowing five unearned runs in an inning of relief against No. 7 Rice in his first action since April of 1999. From that point on, Blaesing was nearly flawless during his final eight relief outings and was not touched for an earned run until the regular-season finale against Iowa State, where he allowed an earned run in a third of an inning against the Cyclones. Except for his appearance against the Cyclones, Blaesing threw at least an inning in eight of his outings, including a season-high two innings against Wisconsin-Milwaukee on March 28, where he recorded a season-high two strikeouts and against Creighton on April 24, where he pitched two scoreless innings to send the game into extra innings, but was not involved in the decision.

2000 - Sophomore
Blaesing continued to recover from surgery and did not appear in any contests.

1999 - Redshirt Freshman
Blaesing pitched in two games before having Tommy John surgery on April 12, receiving a medical hardship year. In his two outings, he pitched 4.1 innings and gave up four hits and four earned runs, but struck out three batters. Blaesing made his first career appearance against Chicago State on March 17, going 2.2 innings and allowing three runs, while striking out a career-high three Cougars in an 11-7 Husker win. In his final outing before the surgery, he allowed two runs (one earned) in 1.2 innings against Nebraska-Omaha.

1998 - Freshman
Blaesing did not pitch during the 1998 season because of a shoulder injury.

Lockport High School
Blaesing had success both as a pitcher and an outfielder at Lockport High School. He lettered four seasons in baseball and basketball. His team finished second in the state in 1997 and was ranked in the top 30 in the country by USA Today. In his high school career, he hit .375 with 15 home runs, 30 doubles, 105 RBIs, 100 runs scored and 140 hits. On the mound, he had a 25-5 record with 195 innings pitched and 219 strikeouts. He was an all-state selection by the Chicago Tribune as an outfielder. He tossed a no-hitter in the state quarterfinals with 17 strikeouts. He also played right field and was a utility player for Prairie Gravel, Ill., in the 1998 NBC World Series, in Wichita, Kan. Blaesing was all-conference in baseball and basketball in 1996 and 1997. On the basketball court, he is the sixth all-time leading scorer in Lockport history.
