2005 Outlook: Brian Duensing looks to return to the mound after two years of injuries • Underwent Tommy John surgery on his left elbow in March of 2004 • Was Nebraska’s ace before the injury in 2003, going 3-0 with a 2.42 ERA in four starts • Will contend for a spot in the weekend rotation if healthy • Hard-throwing southpaw who averaged over a strikeout per inning two years ago, including a career-high nine strikeouts against seventh-ranked Wake Forest in the Metrodome • Brings valuable postseason experience to the Husker rotation, as he made starts in the Big 12 Tournament title game and a College World Series game as a freshman in 2002 • Will likely be on a pitch count early on with the hope that he will be at 100 percent for the start of Big 12 play.

2004: Redshirted, as he underwent season-ending Tommy John surgery in March.

2003: Was in the midst of a dominant sophomore season before being sidelined with an elbow injury in early March • Received a medical redshirt, but did not have surgery • Finished with a 3-0 record and a 2.42 ERA in four starts, striking out 24 - to only six walks - while holding opponents to a .179 average • Opened 2003 on a strong note, taking a no-hitter into the sixth inning against UT-Pan American and allowing two hits in a 9-2 victory • Matched his career high with eight strikeouts against Louisiana Tech, allowing four hits over 5.2 innings • Tossed a complete-game shutout against No. 7 Wake Forest at the Dairy Queen Classic • Scattered five hits and established a career high with nine strikeouts in a 6-0 win • Earned Dairy Queen Classic all-tournament honors and was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for his performance • Struck out four, but lasted only 1.2 innings against UW-Milwaukee before leaving the game with an injury.

2002: Proved to be one of the Big 12’s top freshmen, going 6-2 with a 4.73 ERA in 78 innings • Compiled a 2.4-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio (60-25) and held foes to a .270 average • Made 18 appearances, including 12 starts • Dazzled in his first career start vs. Minnesota, taking a shutout into the eighth inning before allowing three runs to take the loss • earned his first win against UW-Milwaukee on March 27, scattering four hits and striking out six in a one-run effort • Won six straight games before taking the loss to Richmond in the Super Regional • Worked as NU’s primary weekday starter until moving into the rotation after Shane Komine suffered an elbow injury • Stepped into the weekend rotation in Komine’s absence and went 2-0 with a 4.56 ERA in four Big 12 starts • Shut down No.15 Oklahoma State, allowing one run over six innings and struck out a season-high eight Cowboys to clinch NU’s first series win at OSU since 1970 • Hurled 7.1 innings of one-run ball, scattering five hits to pick up the win against Kansas • Started the Big 12 title game against Texas, allowing four runs in three innings, but did not factor in the decision • Became one of NU’s stalwarts in the postseason helping the Huskers to a College World Series appearance • Dominant against UW-Milwaukee in the regional opener, coming out of the bullpen in relief of Aaron Marsden to throw 6.2 scoreless innings and earn the win • Joined Shane Komine on the NCAA Lincoln Regional All-Tournament Team • Was superb in the Super Regional against Richmond, as he came out of the bullpen in the fourth and held Richmond scoreless until the ninth • Threw 11.2 consecutive scoreless innings in the NCAA Regional and Super Regional until allowing three runs (allowed a lead-off single and then intentionally walked the next two hitters to set up a force play) in the ninth • Made the start against South Carolina in the College World Series, allowing four runs on six hits in a no-decision to the national runner-up.

Millard South High School: Was a two-way standout for Coach Trevor Longe • Earned second-team all-state honors in both his junior and senior campaigns • Garnered second-team All-Nebraska honors as a utility player, as he batted .429 while going 2-2 on the mound with a 3.78 ERA • Named first-team all-metro and all-district in 2001 • Tabbed second-team all-state as a junior, batting .434 with 15 stolen bases and 31 runs • Starred in his final two seasons in American Legion ball, going a combined 16-3 with 141 strikeouts • Was 9-1 with 67 strikeouts and a 0.74 ERA as a senior, while also topping the state with a .522 average • Selected to the MSHS Honor Roll for three years and graduated with a 3.6 GPA • Looked at Creighton before choosing Nebraska.
