2002 Outlook One of five catchers brought in this season, David Ferazza (pronounced Fey-ROT-za) will add depth to a catching corps that is the deepest in recent memory. Ferazza hit the ball hard during the fall, and showed that he had the potential to succeed at the Division I level. Defensively, he was solid behind the plate, helping his White team to victory in the Red-White Series.
Although he will redshirt this season, the coaching staff believes that Ferazza has a bright future in the Husker program. At 6-3, 200 pounds, he has the frame to be able to put on some muscle.
James Logan High School Ferazza played baseball for three seasons for coach John Goulding at James Logan High School. As a senior, Ferazza batted .441 with three homers, seven doubles, 15 runs scored and 15 RBIs in 25 contests, as JLHS was ranked as high as 11th nationally. During the sectional playoffs, he batted .900 (9-for-10) with a homer and four runs scored, helping his team to a North Coast Sectional title. A two-time team defensive MVP and all-league selection in 2000, Ferazza threw out 21-of-30 would-be base runners as a senior and was chosen as one of the top catchers in California by Collegiate Baseball. He was selected to play in the California North/South Series. A four-year member of the honor roll, he also played two seasons of basketball in high school. Ferazza considered Long Beach State, Cal State Fullerton and Sacramento State before selecting Nebraska.
