Last season, the senior from Nacogdoches, Texas, saw most of his action against right-handers, batting .357 with four homers and 28 RBIs. While his offensive production was instrumental for the Huskers in their quest for a Big 12 title, the stat that jumps out is the Huskers? 27-4 mark when Seely was in the starting lineup. After the Huskers? College World Series appearance, Seely enjoyed an outstanding summer for the Kenai Peninsula Oilers in the Alaskan Baseball League. In 25 games, he ranked among the league leaders with a .316 average in one of the nation?s toughest summer leagues.

During the fall, Seely showed his versatility, splitting time in the outfield and at first base, a position he played for two seasons in junior college.

?Justin is a player that gives us a lot of options,? Nebraska Coach Dave Van Horn said. ?He had a great summer in Alaska and gives us a good left-handed hitter in the middle of our lineup.?

2001 - Junior
Seely played a major role in the Huskers? Big 12 Championship season, batting .357 with four homers and 28 RBIs, as he appeared in 44 contests, including 31 starts. He made a majority of his appearances in left field, as John Cole moved to second against right-handers during the second half of the campaign.

The 5-10, 180-pound Seely saw limited action during the postseason, as the Huskers faced a steady diet of left-handers. He played in the Huskers? College World Series opener against Cal State Fullerton and went 0-for-2 in NU?s 5-4 loss to the Titans. He totaled just eight at-bats during the Regional and Super Regional and had an RBI double in NU?s 16-6 win over Northern Iowa on May 26. At the Big 12 Tournament, he went 1-for-7 in two games, helping the Huskers to their third straight conference tournament crown.

Seely started the season slowly, with just six starts in the Huskers? first 24 contests. Seely, who finished fourth in the Big 12 with a .397 average in conference play, earned a spot in the starting lineup for a doubleheader against Wisconsin-Milwaukee on March 28 and promptly went 4-for-8 with five RBIs and four runs scored in a sweep of the Panthers. The performance earned him a spot in the everyday lineup, and he delivered four straight multi-hit games, including a career-high four hits and three RBIs in the series finale against Oklahoma on April 1.

He finished the regular season with a flourish, batting .392 (40-for-102) with 23 RBIs and 24 runs scored. Seely recorded 14 multiple-hit games in his 31 starts, while 19 of his 51 hits went for extra bases. Against Creighton on April 24, Seely helped the Huskers nearly overcome an eight-run deficit, hitting a game-tying grand slam in the bottom of the ninth before the Huskers lost 11-8 in 10 innings.

Northeast Texas Community College
Seely enjoyed an outstanding career at Northeast Texas Community College, hitting a combined 22 home runs and driving in more than 100 RBIs in his two seasons for Coach Chad Tidwell. As a sophomore, he hit .405 with 12 homers and 57 RBIs, while also going a perfect 20-for-20 on the basepaths in garnering first-team all-conference honors. During his freshman campaign, Seely helped NTCC to the regional semifinals, batting .370 with 10 homers and 45 RBIs, while stealing 15-of-17 bases. Seely considered Texas, Louisiana State, Houston and Alabama before choosing Nebraska.

Nacogdoches High School
A 1998 graduate of Nacogdoches High School, Seely was a standout performer for Coach Brent Harris. A two-time all-state honoree, he led NHS to a state regional semifinal appearance in 1997, batting .425 with three homers, 35 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. He bettered his numbers as a senior, hitting .442 with 13 home runs, 47 RBIs and 22 stolen bases. He was selected as the district player of the year and was a first-team All-Texas selection by the state writers in 1998. Seely was also an academic all-district honoree for his performance in the classroom.
