  • Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll (Spring 2003; Spring 2004; Fall 2005)
  • Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Member (2003- 04; 2004-05)

2007 Outlook: One of only two seniors on the 2007 Husker roster, Mike Harmelink has experienced a lot in his NU career • Overcame Tommy John surgery in December of 2005 to become a vital member of the Husker bullpen the past two seasons • Does not possess overpowering stuff, but has the poise and confidence to fight through adverse situations and makes the sacrifices needed to improve on a daily basis • Consistent strike thrower who has better than a 3-to-1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in his career • Capped an outstanding fall with a dominant performance in the Red/White Series, firing 6.2 innings of one-hit relief while striking out six • Could be used in long relief or as a set-up man in the bullpen • Serves as a mentor to the younger members of the pitching staff and aspires to be a coach following graduation.

2006: Harmelink was one of NU’s primary middle relievers, making eight appearances on the year • Did not record a decision while posting a 5.68 ERA over 12.2 innings of work • Finished with a team-best 13-to-2 strikeout-to-walk ratio, including seven strikeouts in his final two appearances • Established career highs in innings pitched (3.0) and strikeouts (four) against Kansas in the Big 12 title game on May 28 •  Made three appearances in Big 12 play, finishing with a 4.15 ERA over 4.1 innings • Fanned three hitters over two innings in the Huskers’ win over No. 13 Oklahoma on May 20 • Tossed 1.1 innings of one-hit, shutout ball at Baylor on May 14 • Pitched one inning of shutout relief in the series opener at No. 6 Texas on April 21 • Fanned two hitters in a perfect inning of work against Nebraska-Kearney on April 19 • Was dominant in his 2006 debut against Illinois State on March 15, retiring six of the seven hitters he faced over two shutout frames.

2005: Harmelink provided depth for a Husker staff that ranked second nationally with a 2.69 ERA • Pitched in five games, posting a 3.00 ERA in six innings after recovering from Tommy John surgery • Made his Husker debut against South Dakota State on March 11, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three in a 7-2 Husker win • Pitched a scoreless inning of relief against Northern Colorado on March 17 • Went the final two innings against North Dakota State on April 13, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three • Pitched 0.2 innings with a strikeout against eighth-ranked Baylor on April 23 • Came in with the bases loaded in the ninth against Creighton at Rosenblatt Stadium on May 10 and struck out the only batter he faced.

2003-04: Harmelink was a medical redshirt while missing all of the 2004 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in December of 2003 • Redshirted as a true freshman in 2003.

Creighton Prep High School: Harmelink played an integral role in helping Omaha Creighton Prep and Coach Pat Mooney to consecutive state titles in 2001 and 2002 • Compiled a 5-3 record with a save and a 2.91 ERA as a senior, holding opponents to a .181 average • Ranked among the state leaders in both wins and ERA, as the Junior Jays went 32-5 and finished sixth in the final USA Today poll • Was an outstanding two-way performer, hitting .355 with two homers and 14 RBIs, earning all-division honors on the diamond • Dominated in American Legion ball as a senior going 9-0 with a 2.02 ERA, striking out 71 in 52 innings • Also hit .358 with a pair of homers and 20 RBIs during his senior campaign • Graduated with honors from Creighton Prep.

Personal: Born on Sept. 1, 1983, in Omaha • Parents are Doug and Marg Harmelink • Has one brother (Joey) and one sister (Megan) • Is an art and advertising double major at Nebraska.
