2004 Outlook
After a year in waiting, Kevin Belcher enters the 2004 season looking to play a role in the Huskers’ success. The 6-2, 200-pounder shined during the Red/White Series, batting .389 with a homer, three RBIs and five runs scored to help the victorious Red squad to a 3-1 series win. After the solid fall, Belcher, who has put on nearly 20 pounds of muscle since last season, has put himself in the mix in a highly competitive outfield battle entering the spring.

"Kevin showed a lot of potential during the fall," Nebraska Coach Mike Anderson said. "He is capable of playing any of our outfield positions and has worked on being a more consistent player. As he continues to develop, he will give himself an opportunity for playing time this season."

2003 - Freshman
Belcher redshirted during the 2003 season.

Before Nebraska
Belcher was a three-year starter for Coach Tom Meyers at Lake Forest High School outside of Chicago. Belcher, who runs the 60-yard dash in 6.65 seconds, batted .418 with five homers and 21 RBIs in the spring of 2002, earning first-team all-county accolades and helping his team to a regional title. A two-time first-team All-Lake County Conference and All-Lakeshore selection, he was one of the top high school prospects in the state of Illinois according to Baseball America. He batted nearly .400 as a junior, earning honorable-mention All-Illinois honors. Belcher, who chose Nebraska over Auburn and New Orleans, comes from an athletic family, as his older brother Greg played baseball at Illinois for two seasons. In addition, his grandfather James Avery played basketball at Langston University, uncle Sterling Burke played basketball at Northwestern, cousin Dwayne Belcher played baseball at Kansas State and great uncle Randall Baker competed in football and baseball at Langston.
