Nebraska?s Greichaly Cepero has been named the AVCA Division I National Player of the Week for her role in guiding the Huskers to three-game wins over No. 20 Missouri and No. 22 Kansas State last week. Cepero, who was also named the Big 12 Conference Player of the Week, is the second Husker to receive the AVCA honor this season, as senior middle blocker Amber Holmquist won the award Nov. 25.
Cepero averaged 2.50 kills per game on a .583 hitting percentage, 12.50 assists per game, 2.83 digs per game and 1.83 blocks per game last week against the Tigers and Wildcats. Cepero guided the Huskers to a .338 hitting percentage for the week, as NU swung at a .345 clip at Missouri Wednesday, then posted a .331 mark against KSU Saturday. Every Husker with at least 20 attempts hit .259 or higher, and four NU players hit over .300 under Cepero?s direction.
Against the Tigers, Cepero missed a triple-double by one block and one kill. The Dorado, Puerto Rico native produced 40 assists to move into second on the Nebraska career charts with 3,789 career assists, passing Nikki Stricker (1990-93). Cepero also added three blocks, nine digs and nine kills on a .818 hitting percentage, as she did not commit an error in 11 attacks.
Against the Wildcats on senior night, Cepero tallied six kills while swinging at a .385 clip and added 35 assists, eight digs, two service aces and a season-high eight blocks.
A two-time AVCA All-American and the 2000 AVCA and Big 12 Player of the Year, Cepero finished the regular season ranked among the NU career top 10 in assists, total blocks, solo blocks and block assists.
