Lincoln ? Practicing in 36 degree weather, the Huskers returned to Memorial Stadium in full pads for their second practice of the week.

"The team moved around well and I think we got a lot out of practice today," head coach Frank Solich said.

"The negative side about the practice is that we picked up a few bumps and bruises. As we go through spring ball now we?re starting to get our share of minor injuries and it?s starting to take its toll on the players. Hopefully none of those guys will be eliminated from scrimmaging tomorrow."

The Huskers will meet from 9:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Saturday morning. Snappers, punters and members of the punt return team will begin stretching at 11:15 a.m. and the rest of the team will join them at 11:25 a.m. After stretching the entire team will go into 25 minutes of individual work before scrimmaging.

"Our feeling is we need to continue to work hard on technique. The only way to do that is to drill it in group work, so we?ll have 25 minutes of that prior to starting the scrimmage.

Solich announced that Nebraska defensive tackle Jason Lohr (Tulsa, Okla.) was granted a medical hardship for the 2001 and 2002 seasons by the Big 12 Conference (Bylaw 14.2.4) and was granted the extension of his five-year clock by the NCAA (Bylaw 30.6.1), which will allow him to participate as a sixth-year senior in 2003 for the Huskers. The University and Lohr were officially notified via phone on Thursday, April 3 after the NCAA Student-Athlete Reinstatement Staff approved the waiver of the five-year/10-semester rule. Lohr missed all of the 2002 season after suffering a season-ending knee injury (left ACL) during fall camp.

"It?s big to have someone as experienced as Jason is coming back for another year," Solich said. "He?s a very strong athletic guy and also a proven player that has done an outstanding job for us when he?s been on the field."

Lohr also missed all but three games in the 2001 season, when he tore his left lateral collateral knee ligament in the first half of the Notre Dame game, game three of Nebraska?s season. Lohr had not redshirted previously, and was granted a medical hardship season for 2001, allowing him to repeat his senior year in 2002. Lohr?s situation is unusual in that he will be listed as a senior for the third consecutive season.

"It will take him a while to get used to playing again," Solich said. "We were hoping that he?d be recovered enough to get in a few snaps this spring, which still may occur, but up until this point, he hasn?t taken any snaps.
