Devaney Center Tour Information
The 13,595-seat Bob Devaney Sports Center is one of the most beautiful arenas in the Big 12 Conference. Opened in the fall of 1976, the Big 12's third-largest arena is located on the Nebraska State Fairgrounds. The building, a $13 million project, houses the Huskers' basketball, track, swimming, wrestling and gymnastics teams. Named after Bob Devaney, Nebraska's highly successful football coach and athletic director (1962-93), the Husker faithful always have been dedicated supporters of the Nebraska women's basketball program.
The Devaney Center underwent $7.9 million in renovations during the 1999-2000 season, including the addition of two HuskerVision replay screens, hustle-stat boards, digital message boards, ring of honor, new sound and lighting systems and increased chairback and disabled seating. The improvements to the arena reduced the seating capacity from 14,000 to 13,500. Major concourse renovations, including a Husker Hall of Honor and a Husker Walk of Fame, add to the winning atmosphere of the Devaney Center.
Since the 1997-98 season, Nebraska has drawn seven crowds of more than 10,000 fans, including a school-record crowd of 13,226 in a 65-56 win over Kansas State on Feb. 26, 2000. The Huskers drew two crowds of more than 12,400 during the 2004-05 season. Nebraska also set a single-season attendance record by averaging 5,000 fans per game in 1998-99 to rank 15th nationally. Nebraska has ranked in the top 35 in average home attendance in eight of the last 10 seasons. The last three seasons, the Huskers have averaged more than 5,000 fans per game during the Big 12 Conference season. |
