The Nebraska football team completed its final scrimmage of the fall with an approximately 100-play scrimmage on the Memorial Stadium turf on Friday. Despite a 24-minute delay because of lightning and rain in Lincoln just after 10:30 a.m., the Husker defense continued to shine, recording six sacks and 13 other tackles for loss. The defense also forced an interception and two fumbles, including one returned 30 yards by Justin Smith for a touchdown. Nebraska Coach Frank Solich said the Huskers need to continue to improve all aspects of their game before the opener with Arizona State on Aug. 24. "The offense has a ways to go, which is also true on defense and special teams. We will need to work to get prepared for next week, but we are about where I thought we would be at this time."

Solich on the Scrimmage:
"We were able to get the scrimmage in, despite the weather. The field was a little slick at times, but it improved as the scrimmage went on. We had some one's vs. one's and then broke up and went against scout teams."

"The offense didn't get a great deal done today vs. the top defense, but looked better against the scout teams. The defense pursued well but did allow a few big plays."

"The offense has a ways to go, which is also true on defense and special teams. We will need to work to get prepared for next week, but we are about where I thought we would be at this time."

"We still held back a little with Jammal (Lord) in terms of taking hits, as he wore a green jersey. The offense had some chances at big plays but they just didn't make the plays. We have a week to get that ironed out. We want to be very efficient on both sides of the ball, but we are just not there yet."

On Jason Lohr's injury
"Jason Lohr will have an MRI on his (left) knee, hopefully this afternoon. We will get information to you as soon as we know the extent of the injury. Other than that, there didn't appear to be any serious injuries in today's scrimmage. Jason was just getting back in playing shape. He is an excellent leader and if the injury is serious, it would be extremely disheartening for everybody."

Players who did not scrimmage Friday (9)...
Demoine Adams, Judd Davies, Seppo Evwaraye, DeAntae Grixby, T.J. Hollowell, John Klem, Lornell McPherson, Kyle Ringenberg, Chad Sievers

Notes: The Huskers will choose and name team captains Saturday after practicing from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. The captains will address the media, but the rest of the team will immediately prepare for Photo Day, which will be held in Memorial Stadium from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Media are welcome to interview players during Photo Day as they sit in their assigned seats and sign autographs.
