Lincoln -- Nebraska sophomore Richie Incognito is one of 29 centers who have been named to the Dave Rimington Trophy Watch List. The award is given annually to the nation?s top collegiate center and is named for former Husker Dave Rimington, a two-time All-American and the only two-time winner of the Outland Trophy.
Incognito had a standout season in 2002 as a redshirt freshman. The Glendale, Ariz., native started 13 games at left tackle and led Nebraska in pancake blocks with 171 during 13 regular-season games, an average of 13 knock-downs per game. Incognito had nine games in which he totaled 10 or more pancakes, including a season-high 28 at Texas A&M, the second-most by a Husker since the statistic has been tracked, beginning in 1995.
The 6-3, 300-pound Incognito is one of three returning starters on the NU offensive line for the 2003 season. This spring he will try his hand at center, where he could provide the Huskers with the type of dominant player that has been a key to many of NU?s great offensive fronts.
The Rimington Trophy recipient is determined by a consensus of four All-America teams? The Walter Camp Foundation, American Football Coaches Association, Football Writers Association of America and The Sporting News. Nebraska?s Dominic Raiola was the inaugural recipient of the award in 2000.
Incognito is one of five sophomores on the watch list and is one of four Big 12 players included.
